Marian David is Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at Karl Franzens University of Graz, and on the Board of Directors for Knowledge in Crisis. He began his academic career at Karl-Franzens-Universität in Graz, Austria, where he earned a Diploma in Philosophy and Linguistics by 1985 and a Master of Philosophy in 1985 under Prof. Rudolf Haller. He then moved to the United States, studying at the University of Colorado, Boulder (1985/86), and the University of Arizona, Tucson, where he completed his Ph.D. in Philosophy in 1990 under Vann McGee and Keith Lehrer.
David's teaching career started as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Colorado and a Graduate Instructor at the University of Arizona. He later joined the University of Notre Dame, advancing from Assistant Professor (1990-1996) to Associate Professor (1996-2003) and finally Full Professor (2003-2012). He also spent Spring 1999 as a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of New Orleans. Since July 2012, he has been a Universitätsprofessor at Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, and he headed the Institute of Philosophy there from November 2013 to October 2015.
David is a member of the American Philosophical Association and co-editor of the Grazer Philosophische Studien: International Journal for Analytic Philosophy since 2000, working with Johannes Brandl, Maria Reicher, and Leopold Stubenberg, and on the Board of Directors for Knowledge in Crisis.
