about

I work at the intersection of the philosophy of mind (particularly emotion), epistemology, and cognitive science. Before joining the KiC project, I was a SNSF Postdoctoral Fellow at City University of New York, and at the University of Toronto.

My research focuses on ways in which emotion guides cognition in valuable ways. I have worked and published on the nature of "epistemic anxiety" and its role in epistemic states of doubt, the epistemic value of cognitive feelings (confusion, uncertainty) in guiding our inquiring activities, the nature and rationality conditions of hope, and its role in guiding mental time travel (the salience and valence of imagined futures).

My next project will focus on the role of emotion in epistemic competence, and the kind of agency at play in the ability to skilfully exploit the information provided by our feelings (curiosity, surprise, confidence, boredom) towards adopting the appropriate epistemic position.

Juliette Vazard is a postdoctoral researcher at the Central European University.
